Funny 🤣 I don’t have X or LinkedIn so have no idea about them , but I still suffer with Facebook and Instagram! I do deactivate facebook and then reactivate it after a couple of weeks 😆. I’ve been thinking about getting rid of it all , especially now I’m totally hooked on substack
Thanks for reading! Well, I write eulogies for a living (serious ones for people who have lost loved ones), so these aren't a huge stretch but do give me a chance to add a bit more humour and personality in my writing (I hope). Usually it just starts with an idea, something someone says to me, or from something in the news and it goes on from there. If you've got any ideas, I'm not too proud to beg ;-). If you wanted to want to read my more serious stuff, you can check out https://www.postscripteulogies.com/blog
Your comments about each platform are priceless. OMG, Linkedin! Are there still humans on there?
I left the ruins of Twitter sometime last year, left Instagram this January, still use Facebook occasionally (when I have to, to look up info about local events or similar). When social media became all about video and people telling people they're doing everything wrong, random people arguing in someone else's comment section and algorithms stopped showing anything unless it was video (I mostly refused making reels), then it was time to go. My goodness what a chaos.
Now I have peace and quiet in my head, share what I want on my own platforms (and some algo-free photo apps), and planning my business is exciting again.
Thanks Susanne, I appreciate you taking the time to read and for your fantastic comments. I couldn't agree more. I genuinely thought it would be hard, but I haven't missed them at all. Maybe Substack is filling some of the void, but, like you say, the toxicity and nonsense was just exhausting. I'm glad you found some peace and look forward to seeing where it takes you!
I admire you, well done! Sadly, I seem to be heading in the opposite direction, but not by choice.
I've had a healthy social media relationship from the get-go. Not much time at all wasted on FB. I used to enjoy Twitter, but I never posted, just scrolled and used it as a source of news and good humour (things like NoContextBrits). No trolls, nastiness, just observing. Never really bothered with IG, LinkedIn or TikTok...until recently. I'm 48, why, oh why, am I doing this to myself?
Honestly, I've been told to by my millennial and Gen Z friends/colleagues/former students. I've written a couple of books about language learning and I've got more on the way, and that's where my audience is. I'm trying to find those younger language learners and they aren't on Substack (yet). If I want to make a living and create a so-called brand, this seems to be what I have to do. I'm not thrilled about it, but alas...
I hope I'm wrong and things take a turn in a different direction, but as I struggle to master the technical side of making cringey videos and 'create content' (nooooooooooooooo 😭😭😭), I wonder what my life has become...
Why oh why indeed! I know what you mean though, I used to love Twitter too. Used it as you did (but with more posting)! At the end of the day… (adopts offensive Italian-American accent) but we gotta do what we gotta do! Hope it works out for you! ;-)

Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. ;-)
I was about to respond the same!
Great minds…..
Wow! I'll definitely check it out
Thank you! I'd love to know what you think.
How do you craft these?
Sometimes, I wonder how many wheel are cogged in your mind.

You are so right, the LinkedIn was great, I was chuckling over the 500-word metaphorical water post.
Thanks Daniel, appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. LinkedIn could be a whole post on its own I think!
